Beauty With Purpose: Zamokuhle Vilakazi Uses Her Voice to Champion Digital Inclusion
Article by Noko Maleka for Insight Jozi News
BOKSBURG, GAUTENG — In a world where beauty pageants are often associated with glamour and crowns, Zamokuhle Vilakazi is redefining what it means to wear the sash with purpose.
The 27-year-old Brand Building and Management graduate and marketing co-ordinator from Boksburg is using her participation in the Miss African Beauty South Africa competition to advocate for digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and community upliftment.
Dressed in elegance and driven by ambition, Vilakazi says her journey is about far more than personal recognition.
«“This journey is about self-development and becoming a vessel for change,” she says.»
With confidence and determination, she hopes to inspire young South Africans — especially young women — to believe in their own potential regardless of their backgrounds.
Bridging South Africa’s Digital Divide
At the heart of Vilakazi’s campaign is a powerful mission: ensuring that access to the internet becomes available to all communities.
She believes that Wi-Fi and internet connectivity are no longer luxuries, but necessities needed for education, financial opportunities, and social development.
«“Reliable internet access is an absolute necessity for advancement in today’s world,” she explains.»
Through her initiative, Okuhle Collab, Vilakazi partnered with Sebenza Wi-Fi to provide free internet access to commuters travelling in taxis — a move aimed at helping ordinary South Africans stay connected while easing access to online opportunities.
The initiative has already impacted countless commuters who rely on digital platforms for work, education, and communication.
Beauty, Leadership and Community Impact
Beyond digital empowerment, Vilakazi has also dedicated herself to humanitarian work. She has participated in blanket drives and outreach programmes alongside organisations such as Quietly Rooted, assisting vulnerable individuals during difficult times.
Her leadership journey, however, has not been without challenges.
Vilakazi openly speaks about overcoming struggles with self-confidence and learning to embrace her authentic self.
«“I never felt good enough at one point in my life. Learning to accept who I am gave me a renewed zeal for life,” she says.»
Today, she stands as a confident young woman using her platform to advocate for equality, opportunity, and meaningful change.
More Than a Crown
Should she win the Miss African Beauty South Africa title, Vilakazi plans to expand Okuhle Collab through strategic partnerships and nationwide community initiatives.
She says her vision extends beyond the pageant stage.
«“I don’t want to be crowned simply as a symbol of beauty. I want to be crowned because I am ready to lead change,” she says.»
Her message continues to resonate with many young people who see her as a symbol of resilience, ambition, and modern African excellence.
As her pageant journey continues, Zamokuhle Vilakazi is proving that beauty queens can also be community builders, innovators, and powerful voices for social transformation.
